There’s something special about England at Christmas, but the cold can make it hard to enjoy being outside for long. While visiting family over winter break, we took a quick trip to York, which is always one of our favorite places to visit.
This time, though, we planned most of the day around staying warm indoors. Visiting the National Railway Museum was an easy choice with two kids in tow.
I’m officially on a quest to take more day trips. Our first pick over Labor Day weekend? Huntsville.
The plan was ambitious: local lunch, coffee stop, a quick stroll around downtown, and the Space Museum.
The reality (because… kids)? One stop. One glorious stop. And honestly? We had a blast - pun intended.
Our final cruise stop was supposed to be Haines, Alaska—but earlier this year, we got word it had been swapped out for Prince Rupert, British Columbia. Cue the collective “Where?” from just about everyone I talked to. Even the Royal Caribbean app seemed confused—it took forever for any shore excursions to show up. My initial internet research turned up recommendations like “walk to McDonald’s,” which didn’t exactly scream “bucket list.”
But here’s the twist: Prince Rupert surprised us.
Ketchikan was our final port in Alaska, and honestly—it might’ve been my favorite. By this point in the trip, we had fully embraced the tourist life.
I’ll be honest… Juneau wasn’t our favorite stop.
It was cold. It was rainy. The kids were tired and grumpy. And with a late port time, our whole schedule got thrown off. Not exactly the dream day we had imagined.
Our first stop in Alaska was the charming town of Sitka—and let’s just say, after a couple of days on the ship, everyone was more than ready to touch land again!
The way our flights worked out, we ended up with two full days to explore Vancouver: one before our cruise and one after. And honestly? What a win.
Is there anything better than a girl’s trip? We took a much needed break and escaped to New York City for a weekend. In a literal New York minute, we left Saturday early morning and returned late Sunday night, but we packed in a lot of the city.
In March, I found myself on two delightful escapades to Arkansas: one to Hot Springs and the other to Wilson.
Take two kids on a 10 hour road trip? No problem
Our whirlwind adventure through southern England was incredible! In just 2 days, we hit the highlights of Cambridge, traversed the enchanting Cotswolds, and soaked up the scholarly vibes of Oxford.
When a long layover in Iceland popped up on our radar, I couldn’t hit that ‘book’ button fast enough. With just 48 hours to soak up all that this incredible destination has to offer, we crafted an action-packed itinerary, and here’s how our adventure unfolded!
